'Urban Trees' is Jim's current exhibition. Along with co-curator Elly Heise, we are celebrating our urban relationship to trees with five other artists. This is a multi-sensory experience designed for winter-weary people of Medicine Hat, particularly campus students. It is an opportunity to simply breathe.
As the fabric of Medicine Hat's diverse cultures seamlessly intertwines with its landscape, the evolution of our tree population emerges as a testament to this harmonious relationship. While a select few trees are indigenous to this region, many others have been purposefully introduced over the past century, shaping and diversifying our urban environment. The trees soften this harsh environment.
This digital generative artwork, born from the fusion of art and scientific inquiry, uses collected data to craft an engaging, multi-sensory experience. Rather than delivering a direct message, the intention is to allow the scientific data to guide an empathic response from visitors. Through compelling visual and auditory elements, the artwork invites you to immerse yourself in the unfolding narrative of how our urban trees contribute silently yet significantly to the heartbeat of our community.
The trees have been used for wellness, security, and retreat by many cultures. Come take a breath and share some gratitude for our urban trees.
